Emergency preparedness is a critical aspect of CCH operations. It is essential that all staff and physicians receive training and understand their roles and responsibilities in this field.

Summary of responsibilities

The porter transports patients and materials (reports, films, charts, etc.) between various hospital departments, demonstrating the principles of patient and employee safety as well as embody a culture of caregiver inclusion in the patient’s plan of care. The porter keeps wheelchairs and stretchers in good working order and prepared for use. He/she responds appropriately to paged codes, applies infection control principles, and assumes other related duties as may be assigned.

Requirements of the job

  • Minimum Grade 12
  • Current certificate in Basic Life Support
  • Demonstrated experience relevant to the area of practice including knowledge of mechanics of and ability to operate wheelchairs and stretchers
  • Physical ability to safely transport patients and materials
  • Demonstrated regular, punctual attendance
  • Demonstrated commitment to patient safety
  • Functional proficiency in English (oral and written)
  • Nonviolent Crisis Intervention Training

Asset:

  • Limited proficiency in oral French – and testing completed
